It’s hard to believe, but our sweet baby Brennan is a week old today!

We’ve learned so much in the past 7 days, and have completely fallen in love with our little boy. Today was his one week check up, and as we suspected he is pretty much perfect. He was 8 pounds, 3 ounces when he was born, and today he weighed in at about 8 pounds, 7 ounces. This means he’s already gained back the weight he lost after birth and then some, which completely amazed the doctor. Her exact words were, “How are you doing this?!”

Needless to say, Brennan is feeding like a champ. He had his first feed just a few minutes after he was born and hasn’t slowed down since. I’m really enjoying breastfeeding, and Dan and my mom are amazingly helpful since I’m still not super mobile after the c-section.

Speaking of c-section and recovery, I’m one week into the 2 weeks of inactivity that the doctors ordered, and each day gets a little easier. Well, easier to move around and feel like myself, but harder to limit my movements and activities. But then I do things like get exhausted by a quick trip to Target with my mom and realize I still have a long road of recovery ahead of myself.

Other news from the check up and this week: Brennan’s color is perfect, and he’s alert and even smiling from time to time. He definitely recognizes Mommy and Daddy’s faces and voices and loves sitting and playing with his Nana. We gave him his first bath a few days ago, and he really seemed to enjoy it (see photo below). Even today when he had to get weighed and measured and poked and prodded, he was super chilled out and didn’t even cry. So far we are extraordinarily lucky to have a laid back baby, which makes all of our lives much easier.

Brennan is fascinated by his hands and likes to sleep with them up by his face and above his head whenever possible. I’ve noticed his dad doing this too, so I’m thinking we may have a miniature Dan on our hands

Also high on the list of things that are improving the first few days at home with a new baby are, of course, having my mom here and our friends bringing us dinner every night for the first week we’re home. Mom has been completely amazing, cleaning, running errands and helping with Brennan to give us a break when we need to sleep. And our friends organized a dinner train for us and have been bringing by delicious meals every day that take a lot of pressure off us all. We are so blessed to have these support systems!
